From Wine Tasting to a Walled Town on Day Trips from Florence

Florence is surrounded by beautiful Tuscan scenery, making the city a great base from which to explore the region fully.

Siena and San Gimignano are often combined to make the perfect Florence day trip. Siena is a beautiful hill town with a lot of art and museums, while San Gimignano is famous for its tall, medieval, fortified towers. Experience the area fully with a trip through the Chianti countryside and you have a satisfying Florence day tour. After the sightseeing in the towns, learn a little about Chianti and indulge in some wine tasting.

If you really want to do the Chianti region justice, you can devote an afternoon simply to this: explore the area, including the castle, and take a little more time sipping fantastic wine.

Most visitors to Florence will have the city of Pisa at the top of their list of day trips from Florence. The short journey is worth it for the scenery alone. You will be able to take in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Once in Pisa, you will view the famous leaning tower which draws tourists in. Make sure you have a camera ready, the leaning tower has to be seen to be believed.

Other day trips from Florence include The Medici Villas, once home to the Medici family who ruled Florence, the walled town of Lucca and many pretty hill towns of Tuscany.
